Being a Ugandan, from the time I started understanding, Kenya was one of the most peaceful african countries I had ever know. I had never imagined that turmoil would befall such a good nation. My heart goes out to every Kenyan.

This is a Prayer for peace in Kenya:

Almighty God, Jehovah Shalom, my Lord of Peace, We pray to you, Almighty God, in this time of crisis. You are our refuge and our strength, a very present help in time of trouble. Do not let us fail in the face of these events. Uphold us with your love, and give us the strength we need. Help us in our confusion, and guide our actions. Heal the hurt, console the bereaved and afflicted, protect the innocent and helpless, and deliver any who are still in peril;

We pray for understanding and compassion from our leaders. We pray that you will safeguard the innocent and feed and find home for all refugees and all those who suffer. We pray for companionship and strength for all who have lost their property businesses and loved ones.
Lord, Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we have forgiven those who have wronged us.

For all those who have fallen victim to hatred and inhumanity, for those loved ones who are left behind to mourn, for the souls of those whose hearts are cold,
For women and mothers who suffer needlessly,
For all those who have been forced into unemployment, who long to return to work, for all those who struggle to support their families,
For the soldiers who are misguided in thinking that their bullets will bring about peace, for those who feel called to conscientiously object to military orders,
For the refugees, children who cry in their beds at night and wonder 'what have I done?', for the mothers and fathers who must try to explain the unexplainable, Lord, hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus, you have overcome the world, and all power and authority is yours. When evil seems to triumph our land, give us courage and faith.
O Father and God of all comfort, through your word and Holy Spirit grant us a firm, glad and grateful faith.

Come now, O Prince of peace, make us one body! Come, O Lord Jesus, reconcile our leaders! Come, Hope of unity, make us one nation! Help us never to forget that you are with us to the end of time.

We pray in Jesus' love. To you be glory now and forever.
Amen.
